Is Amitabh overloading on work?

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan's workaholism is well known. Little wonder that he dozed off at a felicitation ceremony in Chennai.
Amitabh was at Satyam cinema where he was honoured by the film federations of Chennai. Extreme exhaustion caught up with the 67-year-old veteran when he fell asleep before the ceremony Saturday and woke up thoroughly disoriented, not knowing where he was.
Director Balki who was with the Big B, says: "He was fine. He finally had some sleep. You've to understand that this is no ordinary human being. Amitji is a miracle. He can continue working non-stop without sleep."
At the end of the evening, the Big B had 24 shawls to bring back - though he had gone with only a day's baggage. When asked what he would do with the massive haul of 24 shawls, the Big B replied: "I'll give them away to the needy."
But the shawls were the least of his burdens in Chennai.
Says Balki: "Last week, he was running around getting the ('Paa') premiere in place. Then on Friday morning, he left to shoot for 'Bigg Boss' without any sleep after the premiere. After shooting the entire day in Lonavala, he attended the Bombay Times party and then on Saturday early morning he left for Chennai. At an age when a lot of us will be in a rocking chair he is still rocking."
But those close to Amitabh feel he is again overdoing his work schedule and needs to slow down.
Says a person close to him: "Even after two major health scares recently, Amitji has refused to slacken his pace. Except for the break he took to be with Amar Singh in Singapore earlier this year, he has been working round the clock."

Movie review - Love Aaj Kal

Is today's love is different from what it was in the past when lovers like Laila-Majnu or Romeo-Juliet perished in each other’s arms? Today, in the age of online romance and one-night stands, many would say love is just a whirlwind. But no! ‘Love Aaj Kal’ will have you believe that certain things don’t change with the passage of time.
Through 'Love Aaj Kal', Imtiaz Ali has presented yet another example of his directorial excellence - the use of simple, short and crisp dialogues, with complete focus on the characters. The two stories - of Jai and Meera, Veer Singh and Harleen Kaur, are set in two different eras - the former being set in 2009 and latter in 1965. Having similar ends, the stories run parallel to each other, making the audience take some time to grasp the plot. Nonetheless, the complex, but comprehensive, screenplay has helped the director a great deal in keeping his audience hooked to the movie, right from the beginning to the very end.
'Love Aaj Kal' also scores on its lush locations. You can catch a glimpse of the picturesque beauty of London and San Francisco mainly in the first half. The second half would make you feel at home, through its scenes shot at the streets of 'saddi Dilli'! The plot would definitely click the minds of modern urban youth. At the same, it has something for people living with old school of thoughts as well, because by the end, Jai realizes that he is not too different from the Veer Singh of 1960s, who lived out the typical Heer-Ranjha love story, in his era.

Sanjay Dutt and Jackky in Vashu Bhagnani's Faltu

In Munnabhai MBBS, Sanjay Dutt had thumbed his nose at academic qualifications by fudging his way through a doctorate. Now in Faltu, he questions our educational system in a less satirical far more serious tone. When Vashu Bhagnani wanted to re-launch his son, he needed an A-lister as a box-office support. Every leading man declined politely. Only Bollywood dildaar, Sanju Baba, came forward to work with Jackky Bhagnani in a film that starts in September to be directed by choreographer Remo. It will star Sanjay Dutt and Vashu's son Jackky who made his debut this year with Kal Kissne Dekha. Jackky's second film is not an escapist entertainer. Says Vashu, "It's a film about the lacuna in present-day education. When I heard Remo's story, I was bowled over. It's about the failure of today's educational system to guide our youngsters into suitable careers. It's about how there's too much stress in and on academics and too little on actually tapping every child's potential. Remo has earlier made an award-winning Bengali film (Lal Paharer Katha with Mithun Chakbraborty)." Vashu's son's post-debut film going by the improbable title of Faltu sounds like a departure from convention. "It is," concedes Vashu. "But nothing conventional works any more. I want to bring new talent into the industry. And the title is an acronym. I can't reveal the full form. It will give away the plot. bollywoodhungama.com/news/

Rakeysh Mehra kills Abhishek Bachchan for Venice

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has finally managed to do things his own way. Just like the way in RANG DE BASANTI where all his leading protagonists died in the end, including Aamir Khan (a brave decision that one), in the 'Director's Cut' version of DELHI-6 he has done away with Abhishek Bachchan in the film's climax.

So this time around, audiences won't see Junior B wake up from a dream and see a revival of sorts after meeting Amitabh Bachchan in heaven. Instead, he would breathe his last after being attacked by the mob.

The new cut of the film has been created especially for a screening in Venice Film Festival where the film has been selected for the 'Out Of Competition' category.

CHECK OUT : Abhishek Bachchan's HANGOVER

Says a source close to Mehra, 'His original script always had Abhishek Bachchan dying in the end. However, due to pressure from external forces who believed that this would be quite an unhappy end for the film, Mehra had to revive Abhishek. Not anymore though as the film maker has gone ahead and not just re-edited the film but also re-shot it a little to make beginning and end more justifiable.'

Says Rajiv Tandon, an official from Rakesy Omprakash Mehra Productions (ROMP), 'The new version is Rakeysh Mehra's original script. This is the first time that a film has been re-shot and re-edited post release.'

The film was co-produced by ROMP and UTV Motion Pictures and also starred Sonam Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor.

HUM PHIRR MILEINGE

There are times when you genuinely feel that there's bankruptcy of ideas in Bollywood. And you feel strongly this when you watch a film like HUM PHIRR MILEINGE.
The recipe is simple. Add DILWALE DULHANIYA LE JAYENGE, QAYAMAT SE QAYAMAT TAK, HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM and KABHI KHUSHI KABHIE GHAM, shake it rigorously and presto, HUM PHIRR MILEINGE is ready to be served.
To put it bluntly, HUM PHIRR MILEINGE is archaic and outdated. You actually pinch yourself while watching this one. Is this real? Perhaps, director Manish Goel is completely clueless about the kind of cinema being made these days. The direction is unbelievably weak and so is the writing.
Write your own movie review of Hum Phirr Mileinge...
Frankly, nothing works in this film, except for a couple of tuneful songs [Sandesh Shandilya], which, sadly, show up even if there's no situation.
Given its poor script, the actors go through their parts mechanically. It's sad to see a talent like Sarwar Ahuja being reduced to such roles. Newcomer Kkhushi [veteran Tabassum's grand-daughter] gets no scope. Also, she could've done without those layers of makeup.
Vikram Gokhale and Smita Jaykar [Kkhushi's parents] and Kiran Kumar and Rati Agnihotri [Sarwar's parents] are stereotypical. The actress playing Kkhushi's aunt is loud.
On the whole, HUM PHIRR MILEINGE is boring stuff.
